Before signing up for a workshop at Make, there are a few things you should know. If you register for a class you're agreeing to the following (even if you don't actually read it). We promise it's not that bad!
Due to very limited space and scheduling issues class fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable. (It doesn't happen very often, but if we have to postpone a session, we will notify you and offer you a makeup session or a gift certificate.) Please note: when you sign up for a class, you're registering for a spot in that particular class, on that date only, with no exceptions.
Being on time and attending all classes is important for your crafting success. there are no makeups for missed sessions, and we can't guarantee that you'll be able to complete the scheduled project on your own. We always do our best to catch you up, but only during the session you originally enrolled in.
If you're not sure you'll be able to make all the classes as listed on the calendar, consider waiting until the class is offered again. (Join our mailing list if you want to hear about new classes as they're posted.)
All of the supplies required for a class that are not available in our shop are listed on the website and/or emailed to you upon enrollment. From time to time we may email to inform you of any changes, but we promise there will be ample notice to gather everything together. Have questions? Please email us.
When you join our email list your information will not be distributed or sold to anyone, for any reason.
WHEN IS THE NEXT [INSERT CLASS NAME HERE] BEING OFFERED?
The site is updated as soon as a class is officially booked. That said, if there's a something you'd like to take and/or have an ideal day/time in mind, please contact us as it's usually possible to add another session. We love special requests!
WHAT'S YOUR NEWSLETTER POLICY?
We do our best to stick to no more than a once-a-month newsletter and the occasional invite to special events like book signings, stitching parties and arts/craft/design fairs. Rest assured: the list will never, ever be sold or shared.
WHERE IS THE MAKE WORKSHOP STUDIO LOCATED?
256 3rd Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215. For a map click here.
HOW DO I KNOW HOW MANY SPOTS ARE LEFT IN A SESSION?
The website indicates when a class is sold out. It's a good idea to sign up early—it’s the best way to guarantee your spot. Have questions about room in a particular session? Contact us and we'll be happy to advise you.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN'T ATTEND A CLASS?
Because of the special nature of our offerings and very limited enrollment, classes are nonrefundable and there are no makeups or transfers into alternate sessions. We recommend waiting to sign up until you’re absolutely sure you’ll be able to make it!
WHAT SUPPLIES DO I NEED TO BRING?
It depends on the workshop. Take a look at the class description for information re supplies and/or supply fees. If you’re unsure or have questions, please let us know.
WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR CLASS?
Make Workshop opens 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. Many of our teachers are working artists and designers and need time to set up before greeting students.
CAN YOU RECOMMEND A SEWING MACHINE?
Try borrowing before buying. Put the word out to loved ones and friends and chances are somebody out there has a spare machine with your name on it. If the lender hasn’t been used for a while it's a good idea to have a mechanic take a look to make sure it's in working order.
A new no-frills machine will run you around $150-$300. Of course you can spend much, much more! If you’ve never sewn before or it's been years since you touched a machine, consider taking an Intro to Sewing Machine class for hands-on practice and recommendations. The more experience you have sewing before buying, the better!
WHERE CAN I HAVE MY SEWING MACHINE SERVICED?
In NYC we recommend Space Savers, 212.691.3666
DO YOU KNOW ANYBODY WHO CAN MAKE SOMETHING FOR ME?
It depends. Contact us and we’ll see if there’s anything we can do to help.
