soapmaking workshop : session 102

one 2.5-hour class // $80 + $15 supply fee as noted below

discover the fun of cold process soap making. you’ll learn how:

  • how to design and formulate your own recipe
  • the proper use and storage of lye
  • basic properties of essential oils, natural additives and botanicals, coloring, molding and curing
  • plus share helpful hints and favorite supply sources

supplies for students to bring:

  • rubber gloves (the dishwashing kind)
  • eye protection
  • a safety mask that covers mouth and nose
  • 3 containers for your soap; can be paper cups, empty half-gallon milk or juice paper carton (top cut off and washed thoroughly) or tupperware/gladware

supply fee: $15 supply fee will cover the cost of the materials for the group to make three batches of soap; you’ll divvy up what’s made (payable to instructor the night of class.)

sewing with knits: boatneck tee : session 102

always wanted to sew with knits on a regular household machine and/or crack the code of sewing sleeves on a simple but very wearable top? either way, this is the workshop for you! in addition to teaching the basics of stitching knitwear, we’ll take you through the construction of the garment step-by-step and give you a pattern to take home. a $25 supply fee covers the cost of all supplies. we’ll have everything waiting for you at class!

note: this project is definitely suitable for beginners. an intro to sewing machine workshop is recommended if you’re not familiar with threading a machine as these skills are not taught in this workshop.

copy your clothes : how to create patterns from your favorite garments : session 100

three 2-hour classes // $240 supplies

do you have a favorite dress, skirt or top that you absolutely love and just know that it can’t be hard to sew? (who doesn’t, right?!) if the only thing standing in your way of making a dozen more is the pesky pattern, than this is the class for you! we’ll show all of the best tips and tricks for creating an original and sewable pattern in this 3-part workshop.

please bring 3 “dream” garments to our first meeting. we’ll pick the one that will be the most sucessful and develop a strategy for producing a toile or sample. (the course will skip a week to allow for time to gather everything together.)

note: this workshop is most suitable for graduates of our fashion lab and/or equivalent sewing experience. please email us if you have questions about your skill level.

before enrolling please know how to thread a machine–if you’re a bit rusty that’s okay. this learn-to-sew project is suitable for complete beginners and can be taken as the first part of the fashion lab series (see schedule) or on its own.
